Our 50th season social – Life members, past committee and members came together at our pavilion on Saturday 24 November 2018 to celebrate our 50th Season. It was an absolutely fantastic occasion, attended by members from as far back as the 1960s. Among the guests was Chelsea life member Mr John Van Echteld OAM who was one of our founding committee members. He was one of several guest speakers and recalled how a handful of residents first came together in September 1967 in response to a local newspaper ad to start Little Athletics Chelsea. A committee was soon formed, money was raised, registrations opened – and as they say – the rest is history.
Many fond memories – Others speakers on the night included life members, former centre presidents, past athletes and the CEO of Little Athletics Victoria, Mr Anthony McIntosh. It was a delight to hear the stories of past members, to hear of their lasting friendships, of their proud ties with our centre and to hear how the centre has evolved over the decades – and importantly has continued to invest in the fitness, health and wellbeing of thousands of children over these past 50 years!
Thank-you to everyone who helped to make our social night such a triumph. A special mention to organisers Prue Mitchell, Karen Vella, Kylie Swingler, Carlo Ballerini and Greg Russo. Thank-you also to our MC on the night Andrew Tomlinson of Ray White Chelsea.
Carnival atmosphere – We celebrated our 50th season with an end-of-season family fun day and Ray White Chelsea Gift carnival on 23 March 2019.

Since 1969-70, thousands of young athletes have enjoyed ‘running, throwing and jumping’ at Little Athletics Chelsea. Today, the basic principles remain the same - to encourage athletes to simply enjoy their sport and do their best. We have a proud history of promoting ‘family, fun and fitness’ and welcome you to come and enjoy the benefits of little athletics and get involved in our 50th birthday festivities.
