50+ year association with Good Friday Appeal
Relaython is Little Athletics Victoria’s major fundraiser for the Royal Children’s Hospital, and since 1972 centres across the state including Chelsea have raised over $1 million.
The challenge for athletes and parents is to keep the baton moving around the inside of the track non-stop for three hours – from 9am to 12 noon.
Each age group runs at a designated time, and all athletes and parents are welcome to join in. Runners can run up to 400m in one go, and run as many times as they like. There are usually change-over stations at 100m marks. Donations are collected on the day.
In April 2022, LAVic presented a cheque for almost $30,000 to the Good Friday Appeal, live on Channel 7.
Our recent lap totals: 2020 – 125 laps; 2019 – 129; 2018 – 127; 2017 – 119; 2016 – 115
29 February 2020: Another fantastic Relaython and fundraiser for the Royal Children’s Hospital was run on Saturday 29 February 2020. We completed 125 continuous laps in three hours. Well done athletes and parents. See our Facebook site for pictures.
9 March 2019: New Relaython record of 129 laps thanks to a mighty team effort by athletes and mums and dads who kept the baton going around the track non-stop for 3 hours. Well done all. What a wonderful sport we have where mums and dads can share the experience of participation with their children…family, fun, fitness – that’s our motto!
3 February 2018: Our annual Relaython was held on Saturday 3 February 2018. Thanks to the efforts of athletes, mums and dads and friends we beat last year’s lap record – keeping the baton moving for 127 consecutive laps in the allocated three hours. In the past two years we have run 119 laps and 115 laps. Three cheers to everyone. 2018-19 info flyer
