Region cross country

29 July 2023: Congratulations to Chelsea athletes who ran at the Southern Metro Region cross country carnival on Saturday 29 July.  For results and details click HERE. This event was a qualifier for the State Cross Country titles at Lake Dewar on 12 August.

Gala awards

15 July 2023: Congratulations to our three finalists at Little Athletics Victoria’s annual gala awards on 15 July 2023. Our very own Ben Skurka was announced Centre Coach of the Year; Claudia Cazaux named finalist in the Emerging Coach of the Year category, and Greg Russo named finalist in the Volunteer of the Year category.

 

Season finale

18-25 March 2023: We farewelled our 22-23 season with our Bendigo Bank Medallion Day on Saturday 25 March 2023. See EVENTS PROGRAM and end-of-season RESULTS. Our 15th annual Ray White Gift was run on 18 March 2023. See RESULTS. Our age group awards were held at Gravity Zone on Wednesday 22 March.

Victorian Championships

11-12 March 2023: Congratulations to every Chelsea athlete who represented our centre with such high distinction at the State Championships. There were plenty of top 10 and top 5 finishes, loads of PBs and fantastic overall performances. Special mention to our three new State medalists – Sarah Hastings BRONZE U16G 400m, Joshua David SILVER U11B High Jump, and Jagger Dimachki SILVER U10B Shot Put. Details:  HERE

Regional Track and Field Carnival

18-19 February 2023: Entries closed 30 January 2023. Athletes will represent Chelsea and compete against other centres for medals. The event is open to all athletes of all abilities from U9-U17 and the carnival is a stepping-stone for the State titles. Athletes enter up to 5 of their favourite events spread over the two-day carnival held at the home of Caulfield LAC, Duncan Mackinnon Reserve in Murrumbeena.  Details: hereCongratulations to all athletes who participated in the regional carnival on 18-19 February. Four new centre records in one day, plus two more

11 February 2023: Incredibly, four new centre records were achieved at our race meet on Saturday 11 February. Congratulations Bridget Koczek, U16G Javelin 500g 27.62m; Gabe Nayna, U8B 400 metres (unlaned) – 1:19.43 and U8B turbo javelin, 17.46 metres; and Patrick Holbery, U10B 400m – 1:08.24 – previous mark held since 1984. On Saturday 25 February, Gabe Nayna, continued his fine form, breaking records in the discus (15.40m) and scissor jump (1.04m). As of 25 February 2023, 10 new centre records had been achieved since October 2022. For all 22-23 season records see RESULTS.

Relay medallists, twilight meets success

25 January 2023: We ran successive well attended twilights in early 2023 – on a Wednesday prior to Australia Day, and again on Friday 3 February (modified program due to the weather) prior to the State Relays where we had 12 teams participate. A special mention to U10B Swedish Medley team (Bronze medal). Our first medal at this carnival since 2017. Congratulations to our 12 teams that participated at the State Relay carnival at Lakeside Stadium on 4 February. New year and it’s back to the track

21 January 2023: We returned to the track following the Xmas break in sunny conditions on 21 January. We also welcomed 4 athletes visiting from Mornington.

Summer training clinics

9-11 January 2023: We ran an event-based school holiday program for athletes U8+ at the track from 9-11 January. Athletes chose to do either one, two or all three days. Events included sprints, discus, jumps, shot put, hurdles, javelin and high jump.

Two more centre records

17 December 2022: Two more Chelsea records were broken today. Congratulations Lucy Gothard U10G Scissor Jump (1.20m). She broke her previous mark of 1.15m set on 19 November this year; and Sarah Hastings U16G 1500m (5:48.62). The previous centre record 6:09.52 had been held since December 2012. The two records, combined with a string of PBs, were a highlight of our last race meet for 2022. We returned on 21 January 2023.

Regional relays

3 December 2022: Chelsea athletes ran at the Commonwealth Bank Region Relays Carnival at Caulfield LAC, Duncan Mackinnon Reserve, Murrumbeena. Timetable. An information email was sent to relay teams on 28 November. Region Relays Carnivals. We had 12 teams qualify for the State Relay Championships to be held at Lakeside Stadium on 4 February 2023. See Qualified Teams. Relay teams totals for 2022-23: 47 teams competed at Mentone, 45 teams at Regional carnival, 12 teams at State titles.

Lots of PBs

26 November 2022:  The track was buzzing today. Lots of PBs. Special mention to Sydney Buensch for breaking her U11G Discus centre record today. She first broke the record on 5 November.

Mentone relay day – track stars shine

20 November 2022:  Our 46 teams performed wonderfully at Mentone relay day on Sunday 20 November. Lots of medals and a swag of top placings. Thank-you to parents for their help in the lead-up to the event and on the day. Timetable. 

Coles community round – and another record

19 November 2022: We celebrated our partnership with major sponsor Coles during our race meet on Saturday 19 November. The highlight was a ‘banana relay’ on the front straight and there were prizes and Coles vouchers for those best dressed in red or Coles theme. #ColesCommunityRound. Congratulations to Under 10 athlete Lucy Gothard for setting a new record in the scissor jump on 19 November.

Back at the track – and records tumble

5 November 2022: After two successive wash outs, we resumed competition on Saturday 5 November in welcome sunshine. Congratulations to U16 athlete Bridget Koczek for smashing her previous centre record in javelin on Saturday 5 November. She had previously surpassed the record on Saturday 15 October.  Also congratulations to U11 athlete Sydney Buensch for setting a new record in the discus on Saturday 5 November. Athletes expressed interest in the upcoming Mentone relay day (U8-U17 on Sun 20 Nov) and Region Relays at Caulfield LAC (U9-U17 on Saturday 3 Dec) using this link by 6 November. Another successful meet was held at the track on Saturday 12 November, and hurdles were run for the first time this season, after cancellations due to poor weather.

Centre record

15 October 2022: Congratulations to U16 athlete Bridget Koczek for being the first athlete this season to set a new centre record – in javelin on Saturday 15 October. Athletes returned to the track for week one of competition and to begin collecting points for end of season awards. Despite heavy rain in the days before, the track dried out for races to start. More than 50 new families attended the track for the first time, and the program ran like clockwork, with On Trackers completed by 10.20am, and the older athletes finishing by 11.20am. Unfortunately, our meets on 22 & 29 October were washed out.

Season start 22-23

8 October 2022: Our new season started with our Coaching Day. Despite heavy rain the day before, the sky cleared and the track dried out for races to commence. We welcomed returning and new members to the track. The day started at 9.30am after warm-ups. Athletes spent 20 minutes per event site, before moving to the next event. There were no results recorded as the emphasis was on coaching and instruction. See the Program of Events.

End of season 21-22

26 March 2022: Our popular Bendigo Bank Medallion Day was our last event at the track for the season. Athletes were awarded either a gold, silver or bronze medal on the day depending on their performance. Bonus points were awarded for Personal Bests achieved. Races were followed by our centre awards, trophies and medals presentation. The day started at 8.45am and finished around 12.30pm. Medallion Day Program

2021-22 Chelsea Gift

19 March 2022: Our 14th annual Barry Plant Bayside Chelsea Gift was run in sunny conditions. There were 6 junior heats and 11 senior heats. Junior finalists (in finishing order) Ashton Fletcher, Blake Nayna, Carly Jenkins, Jude Connon, Indy Peacock, Max Udovich, Spencer Tuininga, Saskia Bullerjahn. Senior finalists (in finish order) Anderson Mcleod, Teagan Smullen, Spencer Whitney, Isabella Ginesi, Khayal Subasinghe, Riley Whillas, Ashley Bartleman (tied for 6th), James Russo.  See Gift Program The Gift is a 100m sprint event in which athletes race off staggered starts with the aim to provide an equal chance of winning. Jump to it

23 March 2022: Athletes celebrated another successful season with a free fun night at Gravity Zone. The cost of entry was covered in each athlete’s membership fee. The centre traditionally tries to run an end-of-season event for all Chelsea athletes, Covid-permitting, in the lead-up to centre awards and trophies at the last race meet in late March.

State champs

12-13 March 2022: Congratulations to all Chelsea athletes who participated at the Victorian Track and Field Championships at Lakeside Stadium on 12-13 March. There was plenty of PBs and top 10 finishes. A special mention to U9B 400m trio – Patrick Holbery (SILVER), Eddie Gately (BRONZE) and Charles Ferro (6th) all in PB times, Eve Dziurek (4th U13G High Jump), Clementine Arrowsmith (4th U9G 70m) and Charles Ferro (4th U9B 800m) See Results hub It follows a successful Regional Track & Field Carnival on 12-13 February with 29 medals – 6 GOLD, 9 SILVER, 14 BRONZE and lots of PBs.

Regionals success, massive medal tally

13 February 2022: Congratulations to everyone involved at the Regional Track and Field Carnival at Duncan Mackinnon Reserve on 12-13 February 2022. So many fabulous PBs and top 10 finishes – and one of our best medal tallies for years – 29 medals: 6 GOLD, 9 SILVER and 14 BRONZE. Thank-you to all our parent helpers too. Fingers-crossed many of our athletes now progress to the State Championships on 12-13 March at the famous blue track at Lakeside. Record smashed

5 February 2022: Congratulations to Leonka Chandrasena who broke his own Chelsea record on 5 February 2022 in the U13 boys discus, throwing 23.56 metres, surpassing his previous mark of 23.05 metres set on 27 November 2021.

New records

5 December 2021: Congratulations to Leonka Chandrasena who set a new record on 27 November in the U13 boys discus, throwing 23.05 metres, beating the previous record of 22.56 metres set in 2018-19; Liam Pieters new U15 boys javelin record with 26.87m on 4 December, surpassing 26.44m set in 2016-17; and Lucy Gothard new U9 girls scissor jump record at 1.08m on 4 December, beating 1.06m set in 2017-18.

Award winner and grant

1 December 2021: Congratulations to us – Chelsea received a prestigious Centre Membership Award at the Little Athletics Victoria 20-21 gala awards – we were judged to have the highest average membership growth and retention among large centres in the Southern Metro Region. In September 2021, thanks to Coles we received a $1370 grant for new equipment. Thank-you Coles for your on-going support as a major sponsor. Read all about here

Wash out

13 November 2021: Unfortunately, due to the weather and track conditions our first day of competition on  Saturday 13 November was cancelled, albeit reluctantly.

21-22 season start

6 November 2021: We started our 21-22 season with our Coaching Day at 9am on Saturday 6 November. Athletes were at the track from 9am, for warm-ups at 9.15am and started at 9.30am. Athletes spent 20 minutes per event site, before moving to the next event. No results were recorded as the emphasis was simply on instruction and guidance. Sizzling success

30-31 October 2021: Thank-you to everyone who helped at our Bunnings Keysborough BBQ fundraiser on 30-31 October. Funds raised go directly into the centre.

New World Record

28 October 2021: Members took part in the ‘World’s Biggest Olive Oil Tasting’ hosted by Cobram Estate is on 28 October. The $10 registration fee went directly to our centre. A world record was achieved. Details: Guinness World Record Virtual Tasting.

Cross Country Comp

1 April 2021: Chelsea doesn’t run a winter cross-country season, however in past years Chelsea athletes (and parents) have participated at the winter cross country athletics season run by Seaford little athletics. Competition is held at Seaford North Primary School on Saturdays from 9am to 10.30-11am. We ask that Chelsea athletes wear their full Chelsea uniform and Commonwealth Bank t-shirt patch at all cross country events. Details: HERE. That’s a wrap for season 2020-21

20 March 2021: Our 2020-21 season at Chelsea concluded with our Medallion Day on 20 March 2021. View our Centre Awards and Records for 2020-21  Well done to all our athletes who ran at the Victorian Relays Championships at Casey on 27-28 March 2021. A huge thank-you to all our volunteer parents and committee for making our 52nd season an overwhelming success. Despite a delay to our season due to COVID-19, we managed to run weekly meets and many other great events across five months including our coaching day, our 13th annual Ray White Chelsea Gift, Bendigo Bank Medallion Day and presented awards, medals and trophies. We also opened our new jumps runways. Congratulations to all our athletes who together this season achieved more than 1500 PBs – on top of 10 new centre records. Many of our athletes also ran at the Regional and State Championships.

Twilight and region carnival cancelled

12 February 2021: In light of today’s State Government announcement re: COVID-19, our twilight meet (12 February) was cancelled. Little Athletics Victoria (LAVic) instructed centres that, in accordance with the Government’s extreme concern to stem further community COVID-19 transmission, no Victorian centre has the approval to conduct competition or training on Friday 12 February. The weekend’s Southern Metro Track & Field Carnival was also cancelled. 6 February 2021: Chelsea athletes have achieved five new centre records so far in 2021. On Saturday 23 January 2021: Patrick Holbery U8B 400m unlaned 1:21.58; Leonka Chandrasena U12B Shot Put (2kg) 8.76m previous record 8.69m; Jurney Vanderwyk U16G Javelin (500grams) 23.62m previous record 23.35m. On Saturday 6 February 2021: Freya Brown U15G 300m hurdles (76cm) 57.11 secs, Cooper Russell U15B 300m hurdles (76cm) 48.98 secs. Congratulations all.

Twilight meet

18 December 2020: Athletes and families today attended our first twilight meet for the 2020-21 season, and our last meet for 2020. We resume on Saturday 16 January 2021.

Sunday coaching clinic

6 December 2020:  Today we had multi-event coaches  host a coaching clinic at our track. Chelsea athletes participated in various events including high jump, shot put, discus, hurdles and jumps. We offered the clinic to Chelsea athletes as another option for them to access additional coaching during the season, as coaching and instruction was among the suggestions we received in a members survey.

Competition begins

5 December 2020: It was week 2 but the first day of competition whereby results were recorded for end-of-season awards. We welcomed to the track more than 40 new families including many athletes trialing little athletics for the first time.  We also introduced our new ‘beep’ starting guns, replacing the need for caps.

2020-21 season starts

28 November 2020: Our annual Bring-A-Friend / Coaching Day started our 2020-21 season. Athletes participated in various track and field events under the guidance of our coaches in bright sunshine. We welcomed back our returning members and it was also terrific to see so many new families. COVID-19 guidelines were put in place, and families signed-in either via QR code or attendance sheet – this process will continue until further advised.

New jumps complete

8-15 November 2020: Upgrade works are complete on our brand new jumps runways. We now have an extra runway on the front straight, meaning even more groups of athletes will be able to do jump events at the same time.

    

Jumps taking off

10 October 2020: Upgrade works are progressing well on both our jumps runways. Both our runways will be replaced with brand new modern surfaces. Dual side-by-side runways will run along the front straight adding an extra runway for triple jump and long jump events, meaning more groups of athletes will be able to do jump events at the same time.

15 September 2020:  We have no paid positions or supplied officials at Chelsea and the centre can only function with the assistance of volunteers, i.e. parents. Coaching course open invitation

1 September 2020:  Interested in learning more about little athletics and our track and field events? Then perhaps you can consider doing the Introduction to Coaching Course run by Little Athletics Australia.  This practical course is a great way for parents and ex-athletes to further your involvement at the centre. Even if coaching isn’t for you, the skills you learn are handy for when helping at the track and assisting athletes to perform basic athletics skills. Costs can be paid for by the centre. Jumps upgrade works begin

11 August 2020:  Thrilled to see upgrade works begin on both our jumps runways. Both our existing runways will be replaced with brand new modern surfaces. And in further great news, we will have dual side-by-side runways along the front straight adding an extra runway for triple jump and long jump events.  This will mean even more groups of athletes will be able to do jump events at the same time.

2019-20 centre awards announced

4 May 2020:  Our award recipients for the 2019-2020 season are now available, and can be viewed here. Congratulations to all Chelsea athletes. Trophy presentations to be held at a date to be confirmed, pending coronavirus pandemic regulations.

2019-20 season closes early

16 March 2020: Our governing body Little Athletics Victoria advised all centres including Chelsea to cease all of this season’s remaining activities and events, in light of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, thus bringing the 2019/20 track and field season to an early close. Accordingly, our two remaining events did not go ahead – our age group presentation (18 March) and end-of-season event (21 March). The timing and make-up of these two events including trophy and awards presentations is now subject to future review by the Chelsea Committee, on the advice of LAVic, health authorities and government. Read LAVic’s notice here

Records tumble at last meet

7 March 2020: Four centre records were broken at the last regular meet on Saturday 7 March. We also held our AGM. See the list of our Centre Record Holders 

Relaython 2020 and State qualifiers

29 February 2020: Another ripper Relaython and fundraiser for the Royal Children’s Hospital was run on Saturday 29 February 2020. We completed 125 continuous laps in three hours. Success at Regional Track and Field Carnival

15-16 February 2020: Congratulations to all our athletes who represented Chelsea at the Regional Track & Field Carnival at Caulfield on 15-16 February 2020. Our medal tally was 22 – with an amazing 8 GOLD, 7 SILVER, 7 BRONZE. Not forgetting a stack of final placings and plenty of Personal Bests. This makes it one of our best regional events ever – well done all.

Victorian Combined Events championships

1-2 February 2020: Congratulations to our athletes who represented Chelsea at the State Combined Events Championships at Lakeside Stadium on 1-2 February 2020. Claudia Cazaux U16G, Connor Hulme U13B, Magdalena Dimova U11G and Micah Hulme U9G. Athletes did 5-7 events and accrued points based on performance. A special mention to Claudia who placed 5th overall in the State.

Victorian relay championships

14 December 2019: Well done to all our athletes who ran at the Victorian Relay Championships at Casey Fields on Saturday 14 December 2019. Notably, each team ran quicker times compared to their Regional qualification. Results: U14G 4x200M – 3rd in heat, 11th overall; U9Mixed 4x100M – 6th in heat, 18th overall; U12G 4x100M – 8th in heat, 19th overall; U16G 4x100M – 7th in heat, 14th overall.

4 Chelsea records smashed in one day

16 November 2019: What an incredible morning of aths. Four centre records smashed. Congrats to WILLIAM HOTSTON U10B high jump (1.17m – broke his previous record of 1.12m), CLAUDIA CAZAUX U16G discus (33.58m – previous mark 26.98m set by Ruby Holten in 2008-09), FREYA BROWN U14G 1500m (5:32.82 – previous mark 5:39.50 set in 1987) and ALEXANDER GIBSON U16B 1500m (4:41.36 – previous mark 4:47.36 set in 2014-15). Fitting farewell to our 50th season

23 March 2019:  We farewelled our 50th season in fine style with our Ray White Chelsea Gift Carnival on Saturday 23 March 2019. With tents lining the track, it was a terrific sight to see so many athletes, families, friends, life members and sponsors cheering on athletes.      Congratulations to all our award winners and record holders for season 2018-19.

Chelsea sets new Relaython record

9 March 2019:  We have a new Relaython record of 129 laps thanks to a mighty team effort by athletes and mums and dads who kept the baton going around the track non-stop for 3 hours. Well done all. What a wonderful sport we have where mums and dads can share the experience of participation with their children…family, fun, fitness that’s our motto!

20 medals at Region Championships

February 2019: Congratulations to all our athletes who competed at the Region Track and Field Championships at Caulfield on 16-17 February 2019. Chelsea athletes won 20 medals (19 last year), qualified for 25 finals and also achieved plenty of PBs. Well done Team       Chelsea. Looking forward now to the Victorian titles. New 1500m record

Alexander Gibson set a new U13 boys 1500m record on Saturday 24 February 2018.  He ran 5:04.57, surpassing the previous mark of 5:05.01, held since 1996. His effort comes after winning a silver medal at the Region Championships the week before, and since qualifying for the State titles in the same event. Congratulations Alexander.

Our annual Relaython was held on Saturday 3 February 2018. Thanks to the efforts of athletes, mums and dads and friends we beat last year’s lap record – keeping the baton moving for 127 consecutive laps in the allocated three hours. In the past two years we have run 119 laps and 115 laps. Three cheers to everyone.

Chelsea Open Day – a great start to 2018

Chelsea kicked-off the new year with the successful running of its 35th annual Open Day carnival on Sunday 21 January.

Almost 250 athletes representing more than 30 centres from regions across Victoria and southern NSW including Albury, Maryborough, Shepparton, Whittlesea, Benalla, Sale and metropolitan Melbourne converged on Edithvale Reserve for the showcase event.

Chelsea Open Day is one of the longest running among athletic centres in Victoria and sees athletes aged U6 to U16 compete in track and field events.

Athletes set 27 new Chelsea Open Day records and won a swag of medals. Chelsea athletes won an amazing 24 gold, 41 silver and 26 bronze. Whittlesea City won the trophy for the best performing visitor centre for the third consecutive year.

Victorian relay champs

The Open Day capped an outstanding month for Chelsea athletes, after success at the Victorian relay championships at Lakeside on Saturday 16 December 2017.

Chelsea returned with two silver medals. Congratulations to U12 mixed 4X200m team members – Jade Tsiros, Tulip Hutchinson, Thomas Toth and Riley Gibbons; and the U12-13 Girls Medley team members Jasmine Kennedy, Freya Brown, Tulip Hutchinson and Monalisa Takwada.

The success came after Chelsea athletes won eight medals at the regional titles, including four golds.

Record held since 1983 – broken!

Chelsea athlete Teagan Lay set a new Chelsea U10 girls long jump record on 15 December 2017. Teagan jumped 4.08 metres, surpassing the previous mark of 4.05 metres, set in 1983. See the list of our record breakers for 2017-18.

State multi-events

A number of Chelsea athletes competed at the Victorian multi-event championships at Casey on 27-28 January 2018. Special mention to U14 Claudia Cazaux who placed 4th and Under 10 Teagan Lay who placed ninth overall.

Ray White Chelsea Gift – 9 December 2017

Chelsea athletes took a break from regular track and field on Saturday 9 December 2017  for the running of the annual Ray White Chelsea Gift.

It was the 10th consecutive running of the popular 100m sprint event, which sees athletes of different ages racing and running off staggered starts.

The ‘dash for the sash’ produced close finishes and less than a second separated runners in both the junior and senior finals.

In the senior final, first place went to U10 Benji Costante, ahead of U15 Jonathan Mastorakos and U12 Thomas Whillas. In an exciting finish, Jonathan started off scratch more than 25 metres behind the front markers too almost win the event. Other senior finalists: Magdalena Dimova, Claudia Chmara, Brodie Macfarlane, Jessica Adams, Desmond Berry.

The junior honours went to U6 Xavier Kiki, ahead of U7 Jackson Watson and U8 Henry Whitney. Other finalists: Joel Dean, Beau Miller, Amelia Hough, Ashlee Hoogwerf, Leilia Gothard.

There was plenty of action off the track as well including a free jumping castle, photo booth (thanks Pikta), drawing competitions, obstacle course, give-aways and a bumper raffle supported again by Ray White Chelsea, the centre’s major sponsor and long-time naming rights supporter of the Chelsea Gift. Donations raised during the event went to the Royal Children’s Hospital.

Athletes at Little Athletics Chelsea continued their run of success at the region relay championships on Saturday, winning eight medals – four golds, a silver and three bronze.

A number of athletes won multiple medals including Peter Sexton and Liam Whillas who each won three gold medals. Many others ran in finals and represented Chelsea for the first time, and some teams have automatically qualified for the Victorian relay championships to be held in December.

The success at the regionals followed similar feats at the Mentone relay day where Chelsea athletes won nine medals and raced in several finals.

22 February 2017- Region Track and Field Championships Results

Congratulations to all Chelsea athletes for their superb all-round efforts at the Region Championships at Frankston. There were many stand-out performances and plenty of PBs achieved in often wet and windy conditions – and hail on Sunday.

In total, Chelsea won 18 medals – 2 GOLD, 8 SILVER and 8 BRONZE. There was also 18 additional track finalists and many top 5 placings. Last year Chelsea won 13 medals.

Well done in particular to multiple medal winners Vuna Ofahengaue, Teagan Lay and Thomas Toth. Notably, Ashley Koczek won a bronze in the javelin despite wearing a plaster cast on his left arm!!

It’s exciting to think that a number of Chelsea athletes have now qualified for the Victorian Championships at Lakeside on 11-12 March.   Thank-you to those who also helped with duties, in particular team manager Cameron Whillas, jumps referee Anthony Cafarella, and Stuart Cafarella for official duties at shot put.

18th July – Everyone at Chelsea please take a bow…at the annual Little Athletics Victoria gala awards on 16 July 2016, Chelsea was honoured with two most prestigious awards – Chelsea was named the 3rd BEST centre in Victoria and also crowned the BEST centre within the Southern Metropolitan Region of Melbourne. We also received a wonderful cheque for $2000!!!

Truly magnificent recognition of the contributions and efforts of everyone at Team Chelsea over the 2015-16 season. Congratulations everyone – our athletes, our committee, our parents and all our volunteers who make up the Little Athletics Chelsea family.

On Saturday 3 February 2018, Chelsea athletes turned their attention to the annual relaython fundraiser for the Royal Children’s Hospital. Athletes, parents and friends run a baton around the track non-stop for three hours. Runners will be out to surpass last year’s total of 119 laps or more than 47 kilometres. The inside running lane will be dedicated to the relay, with the scheduled program using the remaining lanes.

In total, Chelsea won 18 medals – 2 GOLD, 8 SILVER and 8 BRONZE. There was also 18 additional track finalists and many top 5 placings. Last year Chelsea won 13 medals.

Well done in particular to multiple medal winners Vuna Ofahengaue, Teagan Lay and Thomas Toth. Notably, Ashley Koczek won a bronze in the javelin despite wearing a plaster cast on his left arm!!
It’s exciting to think that a number of Chelsea athletes have now qualified for the Victorian Championships at Lakeside on 11-12 March.
Thank-you to those who also helped with duties, in particular team manager Cameron Whillas, jumps referee Anthony Cafarella, and Stuart Cafarella for official duties at shot put.

22nd January 2017 – Open Day
BIG BIG thank-you to everyone who supported our Open Day on Sunday – making it one of our biggest and most successful Open Days ever. Great weather, 300 athletes, 41 centres, 40 new records, plenty of PBs and lots of smiles and fun. Much to like. 10th December – Ray White Chelsea Gift 2016
Another awesome Ray White Chelsea Gift has been run and won. Congrats to all our athletes who took part on Saturday. Senior Gift honours went to U9 Teagan Lay who was runner-up in last year’s Junior Gift, which this year was won by U7 Joel Dean. 18th July – Everyone at Chelsea please take a bow…at the annual Little Athletics Victoria gala awards on 16 July 2016, Chelsea was honoured with two most prestigious awards – Chelsea was named the 3rd BEST centre in Victoria and also crowned the BEST centre within the Southern Metropolitan Region of Melbourne. We also received a wonderful cheque for $2000!!!

Truly magnificent recognition of the contributions and efforts of everyone at Team Chelsea over the 2015-16 season. Congratulations everyone – our athletes, our committee, our parents and all our volunteers who make up the Little Athletics Chelsea family.

Certainly a very proud moment in Chelsea’s near 50-year history

11th July – Cheer cheer ‘cause the Chelsea team are here…
Congrats to everyone who took to the circuit at Sandown for the Road Relays on the weekend. Plenty of sunshine, smiles and team spirit on show. Well done all.

7th July – Pleased to take delivery of brand new high jump equipment…
three new fibreglass crossbars and six stands complete with tape inserts. Courtesy of Little Athletics Victoria and a RACV sponsor’s grant. Still to come is a specially designed high jump mat. Onwards and upwards Chelsea!
